How to Overcome Regrets?

Regrets are our besties and we keep recalling them often and they only come back to depress and demotivate us, followed by some bad memories. We always want to overcome regrets of our pasts to lead a happy life ahead.

Regrets. We’ve all had a few. And until we sever our ties with these regrets we are not going to move up our success ladders.

Some people say that regrets are the results of the choices you have made in the past. But, that is not exactly true.

Regrets are not the result of unreasonable choices, rather they are just the small moments of life that are already dead and buried in the yesteryears.

There is no point in thinking about the bad memories you have in the past and letting regret engulf you because they are not going to change your future or present anyway.

So, you might be thinking about how do I overcome regrets I always think about and feel guilty, or how do I move past that bad memory.

Now comes the good news, you can easily overcome regrets. Unbelievable, isn’t it? But, yes it’s true, you can easily overcome regrets of your life.

You know the wonderful thing about regret is that it gets your attention and offers you a tremendous opportunity for learning and transformation.

What Do You need to Overcome Regrets?

Here is what you need to do to overcome regrets you might have:

Own up to it

You regret something because you willingly or unwillingly have been a part of that bad moment which left you in regret.

Let the gone be bygone.

Accept your responsibilities in the bad experience, promise yourself to not repeat the same event ever again in your life, and move on to see the other beautiful things and moments you have had in the past and you will have in the future.

Thank your God for the life and courage he has bestowed upon you to live a beautiful life.

Move on

What cannot be cured must be endured, is an old saying. We cannot control everything in our lives, and one who claims to do so is not a human being, he must be superhuman.

Regretting on the things which you cannot control is a sheer waste of time and energy. Let go of what you cannot and could not control. Go on and find another good thing you want in your life.

Apologize

Whether intentionally or inadvertently, if you hurt another person then apologize, mend bridges, or otherwise express how you feel. Then let it go, do not keep regretting that for no reason.

Free Yourself

Don’t carry the old baggage, gone is gone and you have to move ahead because there are a lot of good things which are waiting for you in the future.

Decide that you deserve to be free from the negative feelings surrounding the episode which you regret.

Set up goals for your life and start working towards achieving them. Start to live a happy life.

Learn from it

Every bad thing whichever has ever happened in your life gives you some lesson, learn from it and promise yourself not to be the victim of the same experience ever again and move ahead.

Do not let that bad memory come back to you, and in case it comes back to tell yourself that you have moved ahead and you don’t care what happened in the past.

Say Thanks

Express gratitude for the experience, even if it is a bad experience, as it can and will bring insight if you allow it. Learn the lessons from your bad experiences and enjoy the good moments and rejoice the memories.

It’s better to look ahead and prepare for your future, than to look back and regret.
