Over the past 10 years into Digital  Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Brand Building and working with lot of companies ranging from eCommerce, Education, Training, Immigration, Branding & Marketing Consultancy, Event Management, individual businesses, and small enterprises, I have encountered innumerable excuses as to why business owners feel that digital marketing won’t work for their business or they don’t know about the digital marketing results, so they won’t go for it.

All too often, business owners think that their business model is not meant for internet marketing. Eventually, they realize that Digital Marketing is what they need to sustain their business in the Digital Age.

I firmly believe that Digital Marketing can be used to grow the business of any industry and any type. All one needs to understand is how to make Digital Marketing work for your industry.

Here, I will explain why digital marketing strategies fail. Also, I will give some suggestions as to how your company can avoid them and make a great success.

Resistance to Change

Change is the toughest part of any business. Companies running their operations for many decades are the most aversive to change.

They believe in their old marketing techniques and want to keep continue with that. But lately, they realize that their old ways of marketing are now not working. They need to shift to the Digital Marketing World.

Every business now requires a website, social media presence, emailing facility, etc., to survive in their digital world.

People had a similar attitude when I suggested them to invest their time and efforts in Social Media Marketing. But now everybody understands the power of social media marketing. They are now using digital technologies to reach out to their customers, prospects, and clients.

Change is scary but it’s inevitable.

You need not get scared of Digital Marketing, all you need to do is to learn about digital marketing. And figure out how to use Digital Marketing Techniques in your business. How effectively you can leverage the available tools to grow your business.

For instance, to launch a successful Social Media Campaign, content is the most important aspect which the Digital Marketer needs to think about and spend time on to test it and refine it before launching.

In Social Media Content Strategy you need to understand that you are not only competing against the content of other advertisers. But you are also competing against the content of connections people are connected with on those social channels. For instance, people want to see updates from their friends and family when they go on Facebook. They don’t want to see the content advertisers post to lure them into buying their products.

So, what is the way to reach out to those targeted people you want to show your content to?

Well, the only way is to create creative and engaging content. Only the creative content can cut through the noise and capture your desired audience’s attention. It can encourage them to take a specific action on your website or App.

There should be an 80:20 rule in creative content and an entire advertising budget. Companies should invest 20% of their advertising budget in creating high-quality pictures, engaging videos, animations, etc.

The poor content requires more spends to reap the same benefit as good content. Rather good content increases click rate and also conversion rates with a high level of engagement.

Undefined Goals and Unrealistic Expectations

Digital Marketing is not a magic wand, which can do miracles. Digital marketing can help achieve a certain target in a given situation with a given budget in a specific time frame.

Before starting any marketing campaign, it’s imperative to set realistic expectations and goals for what you want to accomplish.

Digital marketing is all about testing out different combinations of parameters. And then continuing with the one which gives the best digital marketing results, i.e., ROI or your goal.

But, always keep in mind that the landscape of digital marketing is changing very rapidly. So it is not necessary that every time the same strategy would work. Next time probably you need to think a different strategy altogether.

The digital marketer tests hundreds and sometimes thousands of ad groups, seeking to hit that sweet spot of cost, impressions, and engagement, which doesn’t happen overnight. So, be patient with experimentation.

However, the previous marketing campaign data can be used to set a baseline of comparison. This will help you educate yourself on the process to keep your goals clear and achievable.
